This year, Black Friday ushered in one spectacular gift to Lincoln Park that you actually don’t have to pay for: Lincoln Park Zoo Lights presented by ComEd! At 5 p.m., November 29th, Lincoln Park Zoo kicked off their highly anticipated Zoo Lights, which displays over two million lights throughout the park. Zoo lights is the perfect event to bring your family to, with plenty sights and activities to keep everyone busy for hours. Parents can sip on warm spiced wines or ice-cold beer as they get escorted by their children from exhibit to exhibit. Tunnels of lights map out the zoo guiding visitors around all the light shows that give Zoo Lights such an important association with Chicago’s holiday season. They even have a musical lights show choreographed to holiday music on the zoo’s South Lawn, holiday themed animal houses and 3D light displays! However, you have to be one of the first 900 visitors each night to get a pair of 3D glasses.
While the light presentations are the primary attraction at Zoo Lights, there are still plenty of other activities to participate in. Per usual, Santa will be making an appearance at the Kolver Lion House. Santa knows that Chicago children are obviously the most well behaved children and thus will be gracing us with photos and autographs. If Mr. Claus intimidates your kids, there is an incredible ice carving competition but it’s a good idea to get there early, otherwise your shoulders are going to turn into seats. They also have ice-skating in the zoo, which is offered from noon to 9 p.m. all the way through March 2nd (except December 24th & 25th) for just $5 to skate and skate rentals for only $5. For those Lincoln Park Zoo members, there will be a Members-Only night on Thursday, December 5th. This is an exclusive event for members, which allows them to experience all the thrills of zoo lights with limited crowds. Member or not, Lincoln Park Zoo Lights is only on display through January 5th on select days so be sure to check out the schedule here to plan a day for your family.
